One big part of environmental crimes is poaching, also known as wildlife smuggling. This illegal activity is when people buy and sell animals when they are not supposed to. People take animals from nature and sell them to people.
One example of wildlife smuggling is the bear bile. There are farms in China where bears are kept in cages. Their bile is taken out and sold to people. Many people believe that bear bile is good for you.
Also, many people like to have rhino horns. The horns are very nice, so people want it to show off. But to get the horn, the rhino has to be killed. In South Africa, many rhinos have died recently because of this trade.
The illegal wildlife trade is like human trafficking where people are bought and sold. Instead, it is animals that are bought and sold.
