How big is black market crimes regarding the environment?
There are many estimates regarding the crime against our planet. The best estimate that I have found places it at over $130 billion dollars in economic impact from these illegal acts.
It is a lot of money that damages the planet. Environmental crime includes all types of harmful activity that kills our planet. It includes illegal logging, wildlife smuggling, trash dumping and illegal fishing. The illegal wildlife trade involves the illegal poaching and selling of animals.
All of these types of environmental crime has a lasting impact on our planet, both in terms of the environmental but also in financial terms.
It is hard to stop this type of crime because it is global in nature. Wikipedia says that since pollution in one country can easily affect another country, more international agreements are necessary in order to stop these types of crimes. But it is very hard to get countries to work together on this issue. Countries like China feel like other countries are trying to tell them what they can or can not do, and they don't like that. Also, it is very hard to prove who is doing the crime.
Scientists all over the world must work with law enforcement agencies to stop this activity from continuing. They can share their knowledge and instruments with the police so that the police can find evidence that someone is committing environmental crime.
We all have to work together to stop this crime. We only have one planet and we must all preserve it for future generations.
